District IP Addressing Scheme

WAN Core
At present, each core router is connected by four T1 point-to-point connections to each of the other two core routers. Within the next seven to ten years, WAN core growth is expected to double, at which time the 4 existing T1s will be replaced by 2 redundant partial T3s. Private Class B addresses will be used to address each of the WAN core interfaces on each router.

  • Between Phoenix N.W. and Greenway, the IP range will be 172.16.x.x, with odd-numbered addresses assigned to the interfaces on the Phoenix router, and even-numbered addresses assigned to the interfaces on the Greenway router.
  • Between Phoenix N.W. and Sunnyslope, the IP range will be 172.17.x.x, with even-numbered addresses assigned to the interfaces on the Phoenix router, and odd-numbered addresses assigned to the interfaces on the Sunnyslope router.
  • Between Sunnyslope and Greenway, the IP range will be 172.18.x.x, with even-numbered addresses assigned to the interfaces on the Sunnyslope router, and odd-numbered addresses assigned to the interfaces on the Greenway router.

LAN Segments
Each district school is connected to one of the WAN core hubs via a T1 connection, with the exception of the Community School which is connected via an ISDN connection. Private Class C addresses will be divided among each of the schools, with each school assigned six networks for its use.

  • The first network will be assigned to the WAN connection.
  • The second network will be assigned to the Administrative network at each school.
  • The third network will be assigned to the Curriculum network at each school.
  • The fourth and fifth networks are reserved for future growth.
  • The sixth network is reserved for network management.
Network ranges will be assigned as follows:

Address Assignment on the Desert View LAN
The LAN switch on the Desert View network will be divided into two VLANs. VLAN 1 will be used for the administrative network using IP network 192.168.7.0, and managed hubs and switches on the administrative network. VLAN 2 will be used for the curriculum network using IP network 192.168.8.0, and managed hubs and switches on the curriculum network. All managed devices will use IP network 192.168.11.0, the range set aside for network management. The router will not be configured to route this network.

  • 192.168.6.2 – The Serial0/0 interface to the WAN core
  • 192.168.7.1 – The Ethernet 0/0 interface to the administrative network

Internet Connection
The district connection to the Internet will be built off of the Phoenix District Office/Data Center internet network. In addition to routing the internal administrative and curriculum network traffic, it will also provide a firewall and perform network address translation from the internal private IP addresses to external public addresses.
